Entering into a new season, brings us to a time of thanksgiving. Accompany me in expressing gratitude for the wondrous gifts received from our heavenly Father. This week we focus on our great creator. Let us consider our Creator in the excellency of His Name, His powerful word and His sovereign care.
The Excellency of His Name
The Psalms are replete with praise to the Creator. Hear these words, “O LORD our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, You who set Your glory above the heavens!” Or read the words of the apostle Paul in Colossians, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, or principalities or powers.”
His Powerful Word
Next consider His powerful word. In Psalm 33, the Psalmist proclaims, “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” He continues, “Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke , and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast.” John reminds us “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
His Sovereign Care
Look further to Psalm 104 as the Psalmist declares God’s sovereign care through His creation. “O LORD my God, You are very great.” Then he stirs our imagination. “He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters, Who makes the clouds His chariot.” He writes of His provision, “He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and vegetation for the service of man, Oil to make his face shine and bread which strengthens man’s heart.”
Consider our Creator in the excellency of His Name, His powerful word and His sovereign care. And, as the Psalmist says, “May [our] meditation be sweet to Him. Bless the LORD oh my soul.”
