Times were rough for the Israelites. Seven long years under the Midianites drove them into the dens and caves of the mountains. Impoverished, they cried out to the God who always hears His children’s cries. In Judges 6, we hear His words through an unnamed prophet; what He had done for them, the directions He gave them and the outcome.

What He Had Done
God, through this prophet reminded the Israelites of how He delivered them from Egypt, and brought them out of the bondage they were in. He also led them into a new land by driving out the oppressive inhabitants. All these mighty things they could not do for themselves, He did.
His Directions
At that time He made it clear to them that He was the LORD their God. They were not to fear the Amorite gods.
The Outcome
“You have not obeyed My voice,” were the stern words spoken through the prophet. Like in the Book of James, they looked in a mirror and promptly forgot what they saw as they walked away. Can we learn from this passage of scripture? Can it be applied to God’s family today, to the Gentiles and the Israelites grafted together under the LORDship of Jesus Christ? Do we forget where He has brought us from, the great salvation He has worked for us, only to be drawn back into bondage? Like the words of the great hymn “Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart, oh take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.”
God spoke to the unnamed prophet, and in times of difficulty we gain insights as the Holy Spirit illuminates the scriptures. We are reminded of what He has done on our behalf, learn what brings Him pleasure, and are reminded of the impotency of the foreign gods in the culture around us. In Judges 6, we heard His words through an unnamed prophet; what He had done for them, the directions He gave them, and the outcome.
