When Jesus faced the cross, He knew the trials His followers would face. He comforted them with these words. “Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” When they questioned Him about where He was going and not knowing the way, Jesus said. “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
The Way
He told them He was the way. Jesus is the way to the Father. Some would say there are many ways. Jesus stated that there is a broad way, but it leads to destruction. In contrast He talks of the narrow way. Though difficult, few find it, but it leads to life.
The Truth
He also stated that He was the truth. In His prayer to the Father on the eve of His crucifixion, He said, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” The truth resides in believers. It is what sets us apart and keeps us. We gird it around our waist for spiritual battle and use it as a shield.
The Life
Jesus further claimed to be the life. Eternal life is to know the Father, the only true God and His Son. Because Jesus lives, so also will those who love Him. “In Him was life and that life was the light of men.”
When they questioned Him about where He was going and not knowing the way, Jesus said. “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
