“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the heavens!” Psa.8:1
My mind fills with awe as I consider the Great I am. The God who in the Book of Revelations declares;
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
My heart expands with wonder at the scene in heaven in which unceasing worship has creatures beyond our imagination repeating;
“Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty, Who was, Who is and Who is to come.”
Lord God Almighty, Who Was?
Through Isaiah chapter 40;12-14, Isaiah further draws me into worship, proclaiming Lord God Almighty, Who was;
“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, measured heaven with a span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding?”
Lord God Almighty, Who Is?
In Isaiah, as he speaks of Lord God Almighty, Who is, I meditate and sense the lifting of my spirit.
“To whom shall you liken Me? Or to whom shall I be equal? Says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; Not one is missing.”
“It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in He brings the princes to nothing. He makes the judges of the earth useless.”
Lord God Almighty, Who is to Come?
The writer to the Hebrews helps us to make sense of our God, who transcends time, whose glory is above the heavens. We learn that Jesus, after He offered Himself the sacrifice for sin, sat down at the right hand of God where He waits for God to make His enemies His footstool. We, like the fathers of our faith, have no continuing city here, we seek the one that is to come where Jesus is the light. There He will wipe every tear from our eyes. He tells us He is coming quickly. Such a One is worthy of our highest praise!
“One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His kingdom is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.” Daniel 7:13&14.
