Home The Light In the Beginning God

In the Beginning God

by Esther Griggs

With one week into the New Year, our grand expectations and solid determination have perhaps already vanished. What is our starting point? We think we need a fresh start, a new day, a new week, month or year. Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.” God is the starting place. His voice speaks and His light illuminates our darkness.

Where to Start

Where do we start? Because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, there is an open door to the throne room of heaven. The invitation has been given along with the promise that any who come to Him will not be cast out. He is the great I Am who knows all and sees all. Who better to go to when our lives are confusing and chaotic. When we view our lives and know something needs to change, God knows us best and desires to show us the way.

His Voice

When God looked on the dark, formless, void we now call home, His voice uttered four words, “Let there be light.” The Psalmist cries out, “Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me.” In another passage he proclaims, ” For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them.” May we like the psalmist say, “I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints.”

Illuminates Our Darkness

Great God of heaven illuminate our darkness. As the prophet Isiah proclaimed, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.” The voice of our Saviour, Jesus Christ calls to us, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” We start with God. His voice still speaks and His light illuminates our darkness.
