As we wrap up a time of thanksgiving, we enter the Christmas season. Today our reflection melds both, by expressing gratitude, for the Christ of Christmas. Various distractions blind us to the true gift of this holy celebration; the gift received when Jesus, the Son of God, came in human flesh. This precious gift frees us from bondage, gives us power for living and is eternal.
Frees us from Bondage
First, born into the bondage of sin, we naturally worry, expect the worse, and live under the influence of the deceiver. Thanks be to Jesus! He came as a light into our darkness, a Saviour for our sins, and a guide and comforter not only for day to day living but also, in our bleak moments of despair.
Power for Living
Second, by accepting His death and resurrection on our behalf, moment by moment, we receive new life, and strength, to face our trials and temptations. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, is now accessible to us for abundant life.
Is Eternal
Third, it is eternal. This gift does not wear out or expire, does not lose its value, but grows richer and fuller as time moves on. It is the gift of eternal life to all who believe. It is the living presence of Jesus which neither abandons nor leaves us as orphans.
God’s gift of the Christ of Christmas, frees us from bondage, gives us power for living, and is eternal.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
