Paul and Timothy Pray for the Colossians

by Esther Griggs

Paul and Timothy are grateful for the work of God in the lives of the Colossians. They have a faith in Christ Jesus and a love for the saints built on their eternal hope. As a result, Paul and Timothy pray for them. In fact, it says they never cease to pray for them. Paul and Timothy prayed they would have the knowledge of God’s will, a walk worthy of Christ along with joyful, enduring strength.

Praying God’s Word

God’s Will

They ask not only for them to know God’s will, but that they be filled with the knowledge of His will. It involves wisdom and spiritual understanding, the result of being connected with Christ Jesus, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

A Worthy Walk

They pray further for these people. They pray that the life they live will be worthy of the Lord Jesus. A life that will please Him fully. He who knew no sin became sin that we might become the righteousness of God. To honour and please the Lord meant reflecting His work by their lives. It would mean being fruitful in every good deed and an increased knowledge of God.

Joyful Enduring Strength

In addition, they pray for them to be made strong. In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes, “be strengthened with might by His Spirit, in the inner man.’ For the Colossians, they pray for them to be made strong by His glorious power, the power which raised Christ from the dead. Also, for a strength that will enable them to be patient and endure difficulties with joy.

When wondering how to pray for brothers and sisters in Christ, here we have an excellent example to follow. Paul and Timothy prayed they would have the knowledge of God’s will, a walk worthy of Christ along with joyful, enduring strength.
